Cynthia and Ian's Perfect Lake Wenatchee Wedding!

"Ian and I met four years ago through a mutual friend. I had moved from Connecticut to Seattle as a travel nurse and had decided I wanted to plant roots and call Washington home. Ian, born and raised in Washington, worked as a firefighter north of Seattle. A mutual friend had persistently tried to connect us and we each kept brushing off her attempts. Finally, after what seemed like my millionth failed dating app meeting, I decided to ask for Ian’s number and figured I have nothing to lose!

"Initially I asked what could be wrong with this “perfect guy?" He was a dog lover, a firefighter, supposedly very loveable, yet... single. What was the catch? After a couple of weeks of texting back and forth (as most modern day romances start) we had our first date hiking in the north Cascades, the mountain range where we would later spend many more days and eventually get engaged! We hit it off immediately and the rest is history.

"In June of 2019, Ian, with permission from my dad, popped the question! We were doing what we love most: spending a sunny day in the mountains. We stopped at a lake to have lunch and Ian got down on one knee, barely allowing me to finish my food and asked me to marry him! We had always dreamed of a mountain top proposal, which solidified even further we were certainly meant for each other.

"In the following months, I would say yes to my wedding dress, agonize over every color and detail of our decor, make charts and spreadsheets, and work on checking off my endless list of wedding planning to-dos. I took wedding planning seriously. In my mind, I was made for this. Mind you, Ian would have been perfectly happy eloping on a remote island with a few of our nearest and dearest. But I was determined to throw the party of the year and to show all of my east coast friends and family all the Pacific Northwest has to offer in one weekend. I had even planned pre- and post-wedding events as to keep the party going multiple days in a row.

"And then, enter COVID-19. Even though we had months to go, I just knew this virus was going to impact our wedding. Suddenly, the color of the table runners and the bar menu I had been agonizing over became extremely trivial. Over the next months, we followed every press conference and news announcement closely. Our incredible venue communicated with us and ensured us they would do everything within their power to have their summer weddings go off without a hitch. Our vendors all did the same. It was indeed an incredible growing experience for us as a couple. As frontline workers, we recognized the severity of the situation and were grateful for the health of each other and our families!

"With so many aspects of the wedding being up in the air until the last minute, it was hard to stay excited. Finally, it was the wedding day, and all I can say is our day was absolutely blessed. After all the last few months had brought us, we were blessed with the perfect day. Guests who were unable to attend due to the pandemic were able to attend virtually over a live stream that our venue set up for us. Our photos say it all, it was a day FULL of nothing but love.

"Ian and I met down at the lake for our first look and private vow exchange. It was perfect and got our jitters out before the ceremony. The ceremony itself was magical. Standing at the alter, up on the hill with the breeze blowing through the wild flowers, was surreal and a moment neither of us will ever forget.

We hosted a cocktail hour complete with yard games, personalized corn hole boards and a local leavenworth beer on tap.

"Our catering company put together to-go taco meals to minimize contact between staff and guests...and let me tell you, it was DELICIOUS. Having a smaller wedding and outdoor venue allowed for plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the dance floor to each guests’ comfort levels. After our 80's movie moment on the dance floor, we danced to our final song and I cried (again) because WE DID IT! We had a wedding during a pandemic and it was everything we wanted and more. This was THE moment I had dreamed of. Being surrounded by our loved ones, on a perfect summer evening, dancing barefoot with no inhibitions."
